From Refugee to Role Model
Working for a Brighter Future
In 1979, when Matthew Wu was just four years old, his family left their home in Vietnam to escape the turmoil of years at war. Their journey began in a refugee camp in Malaysia, and those difficult early days were marked by uncertainty and separation from their extended family. However, Matthew's parents held fast to a dream of providing their children with a better future, believing in the power of the United States as the land of opportunity.
Upon their arrival in California, the Wu family faced challenges familiar to many immigrants. They settled in a small apartment in a rough neighborhood in Santa Ana, sharing their living space with seven family members. Matthew's parents worked tirelessly to make ends meet, with his grandmother caring for him and his siblings during the day.
Despite the hardships, Matthew's parents emphasized the importance of education and self-improvement. They invested in their children's future: Matthew's father worked various jobs, including painting figurines for 25 cents each, to support the family, and even purchased a computer in 1987 for $3,000 — a significant expense at the time — to provide them with learning opportunities.
Their resilience and determination paid off when they were granted the opportunity to pursue an education, thanks to the support of the United States government through federal student aid. This allowed Matthew and his siblings to attend college, and he credits the help of programs like FAFSA and his hard-working parents for helping them become productive citizens.
Empowering Generations
Matthew's passion for helping others with their finances was ignited by personal experiences. His family fell victim to scams related to life insurance early, and the money they lost showed him the importance of ethical and value-driven agents who fight for families in need and protect them from potential scammers. Matthew has since vowed to provide his clients with the best possible service and ensuring their financial well-being is his top priority.
Matthew's ultimate legacy is to create a secure and prosperous future for his children. He aspires to teach them the values of hard work and community service, so they, too, can make a positive impact on their families and communities. Matthew believes that by emphasizing integrity and the importance of helping others, he can empower his children to achieve their dreams and pass on these values to future generations.
We hope Matthew Wu's journey from refugee to becoming a financial role model and helpful business builder reminds you of the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of education, hard work and the dream of a brighter future.
